Altadena Baptist Church supports the Bad Weather Shelter
and the Altadena Community Food Bank
ABC staffs the Altadena Community Food Bank the 4th Saturday of each month (10:00 AM to Noon). We are responsible for providing the following personal hygiene items each month:
bathroom tissue,
bath soap, deodorant,
toothpaste,
toothbrushes,
feminine items.
Please bring your donated items to the church office by the Wednesday before. Thank you for helping with this community ministry.
A Note to Everyone: We seem to have the same people year after year volunteering for the Bad Weather Shelter. It would be great to see some new faces participate. Even if you only sign up for one Sunday to get the experience, it will be an eye opener and if nothing else, remind you of how truly blessed you really are. If you are worried or feel uncomfortable, step on out of your comfort zone and take a chance. You may find it is something you really enjoy, or you may decide it is not for you, but at least you can say you gave it a chance. :-)
Over the years our numbers have dwindled and we have had to rely on partnering up with other groups in order to have enough coverage. We currently don't have another group to partner with, so we REALLY NEED YOUR HELP. We need 15 volunteers each time we serve.
The majority of these people have mental or drug/alcohol issues and a lot of times we are the only ones they have who seem to even care about them. Just a smile or kind word can make their day. They are the forgotten, the looked over, the kicked aside...YOU can make a difference. Our congregation may not be on the scale of Lake Avenue or All Saints, but I think we have some of the most wonderful, caring, selfless people out there. Let's prove it! Thank you!
If you can help in any of these ways, or more information, contact Pastor Connie or Shandra B, our coordinator.
