4S — ANTIDOTE FOR A SUMMER SLUMP
Where did we ever come up with this idea — that a church should expect to experience a summer slump? Sure, people go on vacations (including pastors), but when they’re in town, they probably have more available time and energy than during the other three seasons. Kids are off from school and “wired” to do stuff. Young adults are home from college. Teachers have freedom from their school responsibilities. Many other types of work slow down a bit in the summer.
Summer slump? Not at ABC. Vacation Bible School is always a high point in our summer schedule. The Outreach Department usually plans an outdoor worship service or concert.
This year we’re adding 4S — Summer Sunday School Specials.
During our regular 9:30 Sunday School hour, we’ll be doing a creative
learning fellowship experience involving all age groups, from kindergarten
to “old geezer.” Whole families can participate together. Our 4S
program will begin this Sunday, July 13.
Hands on, whole body, interactive group experiences are being planned that will be fun for kids and adults. The learning theme will be a look at our church’s Affirmation of Faith, which is an outline of what we believe. The first session will focus on the importance of The Bible, God’s Word to us.
Spiritually, you need to guard against a summer slump. Make sure you’re
present at 9:30 AM each Sunday morning. If you take advantage of ABC’s
4S program, you may experience a spiritual Summer Sizzle.

(Though we hope many adults will participate in 4S, there will be a separate adult class taught by Peter Larson.)
